How to Apply SHARKHIDE Metal Protectant

Use the preparation your surface needs, then apply SHARKHIDE Protectant with the correct applicator. These directions are for liquid Metal Protectant. Aerosol has its own label and application instructions.

What you need

Do not put liquid Protectant in a trigger spray bottle or garden sprayer. These do not atomize it adequately and can cause runs. Trigger bottles are used for Aluminum Cleaner, following that product's label.

1. Choose the preparation your surface needs

Begin with a clean, dry surface. Follow the current product label for cleaning and removing any residues before coating.

Aluminum Cleaner is an optional restoration step for suitable oxidized or stained aluminum. It can whiten the metal and is not recommended for new aluminum without Product Support guidance. Do not assume every surface needs Cleaner.

Metal Polish is optional when a brighter finish is wanted. Complete polishing and label-directed residue removal before Protectant. If you are unsure about new aluminum, a polished finish or another coating, call Product Support: 618.910.8890.

2. Wipe on the first coat

Use a clean, white birdseye flatfold cotton cloth. Fold it into a manageable pad, wet it with liquid Protectant, and wipe in long, even strokes according to the current label. Avoid applicators that leave lint, texture, dye or detergent residue in the coating.

Avoid direct sunlight where possible. Work on a small test area first, especially on highly polished metal where a slight rainbow sheen can appear.

For hard-to-wipe details, the separate Metal Protectant Aerosol offers a spray format; follow its own label. Experienced users considering an automotive spray gun should review the Protectant FAQ and consult Product Support.

3. Wait 48 hours between liquid Protectant coats

Wait 48 hours between coats of liquid SHARKHIDE Metal Protectant. Do this even if the surface feels dry sooner. Do not use the Aerosol recoat timing for liquid Protectant.

4. Apply the second coat

SHARKHIDE recommends at least two coats to help cover missed areas. After the 48-hour wait, apply the next coat following the same liquid Protectant label directions.

5. Let the finish cure before use

Dry to the touch is different from fully cured. Temperature, humidity and surface conditions affect drying and curing. Follow the current label for the final cure and return to use, including water exposure; contact Product Support if your conditions are uncertain.

Care and future recoating

Use mild soap and water for routine cleaning. Avoid solvents, waxes, polishes and other cleaners unless SHARKHIDE has confirmed their compatibility. Protection life varies with exposure and use; water beading alone is not a confirmed recoating test.

For streaks, uncertain preparation, accidental application to another surface or future recoating, call 618.910.8890 before applying more product or using a remover.
